The term pheromone was first introduced in 1959 by a man named Adolf Butenandt. According to Butenandt, different types of insects release hormones to communicate with its own species. There are many types of messages that insects transmit through the use of pheromones. Studies show that insects often leave trails of food pheromones, sex pheromones and alarm pheromones for their companions to pick up.
